Day 1: Travel - May 11th, 2010

Wow! The countdown and wait is over! We are on our way to Thailand and on our way to do the work the Lord has put ahead of us! Currently, I am on a plane (flight 815) to LAX… I have a sleepy eyed Crissy I on my left and an entranced Eli on my right (he is watching some sort of Discovery Channel show on the TV). We were very lucky to have all our seats booked right next to eachother (last year they weren’t so lucky). We have been blessed many times over already this trip. My teammates: Crissy, Eli, JD, Jess, Trayce, Shannon, Linda, Kelsey, and Stacey, are soo amazing! I know that God has placed each member on this team for a reason. I know that each member will bring unique qualities, talents, and gifts to every task that is placed before us. This is going to be fantastic! Packing the last couple days has been an adventure on it’s own. I initially packed all of my clothes in cheap ziplock baggies – but the vacuuming-out-air concept was not so successful because they were in cheap bags and kept re-inflating, so that did not work as fabulously as I had planned. What I ended up doing was rolling up all of my clothes and rubberbanding them. I am so proud of how much I fit in the size suitcase that I used. I managed: 5 tshirts, 7 skirts, 2 polos, a pair of long khakis, 4 pairs of shorts, a couple of tanktops, 5 camis, a bunch of panties and socks, and a few other things. It turbulence is coming with the “10 minutes until decent” announcement… more later!
Okay! We are in LA! Yay! There is another group waiting to go to Thailand to do mission work. God bless them! They will be in Northern Thai villages, as well. :o) Fantastic. We have had one casualty thus far – the peanut butter was confiscated by customs! Bummer! Shannon and Stacey were not happy campers. Sad day! But thank God! The redvines were allowed through (PTL) My team is exhausted and we are ready to crash just as soon as we get on the plane to go to Taipei. I get a window seat – YAY! So that means I can lean up against it. We are wishing we were much wealthier because then we could fly first class and have the seats that convert into beds! But alsas, this trip is for servants to glorify the one and only king!
I feel as if I should establish some goals for the next couple days.
GOALS
1)Continue to bond with team members
2)Be energetic and positive even when I feel like I need to crash
3)Be super polite and respectful to everyone around me
4)Work hard to learn and remember basic Thai
5)Remember why I am here: Isaiah 61:1-3… The Lord has anointed me
Until tomorrow… :o)
